Roadworthy Inspections and Certificates Brooklyn

At Mika Motors, we understand the importance of ensuring your vehicle is safe for road use. A roadworthy certificate is a critical document when selling your vehicle, re-registering it, or clearing certain defect notices. It indicates that your vehicle has passed the necessary safety checks to be driven on public roads, but it's important to remember that it is not a guarantee of the vehicle's mechanical reliability or overall condition.

What Does the Roadworthy Inspection Involve?

When you bring your vehicle to our Brooklyn workshop for a roadworthy inspection, our licensed vehicle testers will carefully examine key components of your vehicle to ensure they meet safety standards. The inspection includes checking the following:

  • Brakes - We ensure that the braking system is functioning effectively and meets safety requirements.
  • Suspension and Steering - These elements are vital for vehicle control and stability, and they will be thoroughly assessed.
  • Wheels and Tyres - We check for appropriate tread depth and overall condition to ensure they are safe for use.
  • Lights and Reflectors - Proper functioning of all lights and reflectors is verified for safety, especially during night driving.
  • Seat Belts and Seat Structure - These are checked to ensure they provide adequate safety for all occupants.
  • Vehicle Structure - The body, doors, and chassis are inspected for damage or rust that might compromise safety.
  • Windshield and Windows - We assess these for cracks and proper operation to maintain clear visibility.
  • Exhaust and Emission Control Systems - These are checked to ensure they do not exceed permissible pollution levels.
  • Other Safety-Related Items - This can include any additional components that affect the safety of the vehicle on the road.

Getting Your Roadworthy Certificate

Once your vehicle passes the inspection at Mika Motors, our licensed vehicle testers will issue a roadworthy certificate. This certificate is considered 'current' and valid for 30 days from the date of issue. It can be used multiple times for registration or transfer purposes within this period. If your vehicle does not pass the inspection initially, you will receive a test report detailing the required repairs. You then have 14 days to address these issues and have the vehicle re-inspected.

What If You Disagree With the Inspection Outcome?

In the event you disagree with the results of your roadworthy inspection, it is important to know that we are here to support you. While we do not have the authority to resolve disputes directly, you can seek legal advice or take the matter to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) or the Magistrates Court. Additionally, Consumer Affairs may offer assistance if your vehicle was purchased from a licensed motor car trader.

We strive to provide reliable and thorough roadworthy inspections to ensure your vehicle meets safety standards for road use. Mika Motors's friendly team is ready to assist you through the process and address any questions you may have. Visit us at our Brooklyn workshop, to learn more about our services and to schedule your roadworthy inspection today.
